At the Orchard

What's Fresh July 17, 2014

Fresh from the field this week we have plenty of red and green lettuce, kale, broccoli, and sugar snap peas. We have just begun our harvest of cauliflower, snow peas, and very tender green and yellow zucchini and will have these veggies in a limited, but very fresh, supply. Our final harvest of shelling peas will end this week on a super sweet and flavorful note!

In the farmstand this week, we're excited about our Sweet of the Week: Strawberry Cream Cheese Braid.  A flaky braid filled with sweetened cream cheese and our house-made strawberry jam is truly a work of art!.  Excellent with morning coffee, or as a sweet brunch treat. The first of these will be coming out of the oven late Thursday for Friday morning!

Our Bread of the Week is Rosemary Focaccia: Wood-fired in our brick oven in the afternoon, stop by on your way home from work for a fresh loaf for dinner!  Topped with rosemary from the field when we can, kosher salt and olive oil and accents of smoke from the brick oven.  Excellent dipped in olive oil, salt and pepper; or made into sandwiches with fresh greens, cheese and hummus.  Our Assistant Farmstand Manager slices in half horizontally, tops with sauce and cheese and makes focaccia pizzas!

We look forward to harvesting snap beans in about two weeks and were very excited to see so many large and gorgeous lilac flowers that will soon be turning into the glistening globes of deep purple eggplant!

As the field crew began prepping the blueberry field for the upcoming PYO season, they were very excited to see such a bountiful crop and to sample the first ripening and very sweet from the sun berries! A new crop of sparrows has also just hatched in the bluerries!
