We are very excited to announce that the Orchard will be open for snowshoeing this winter! This will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day the Farmstand is open (Friday - Sunday). We just require that you check in at the Farmstand before going out; trail information and details will be available when you check in.
The terrain is relatively flat, and the views on a clear day really can't be beat. We will have handouts for track identification available, because the orchard tends to have a lot of coyote, fox, bird and other wildlife visitors!
We have a few guided tours with our Orchardist, Scott Miller, planned as well. The first will be on January 16th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (with a snow date of January 17th.) Please call with any questions! 207-647-6419.
It is a very thrilling thing for us at Pietree to still be providing greens from the greenhouse in January! They are doing well, despite the deep drops in temperature last week, and we anticipate having them for a while longer! We put together bags that make excellent salad mixes. It sure is refreshing to have a nice fresh salad in winter, and a little reminder of summer. Of course, the greens can be cooked in a variety of ways as well for when you are craving a warm and comforting meal to stay cozy on a cold winter's night! I recently read a recipe for Stir-Fried Asian Greens with a Honey Soy Dressing that I am completely anxious to try!
We also still have apples, apples, apples! Snow Sweets are fantastic. We have a great mix of cooking and eating apples that store well. Stock up!
