At the Orchard

Pietree Orchard Went to the Ag Trade Show

The annual Agricultural Trade Show, put on by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry was held this past week – January 13-15th at the Augusta Civic Center.

A large group of Pietree Orchard employees had the opportunity to attend the three-day show.  Everyone picked and chose from the vast array of courses, panel discussions, workshops and networking opportunities available based on our individual interests and roles on the farm.  Pietree had representation at all commodity programming related to us including:  the Maine State Pomological Society, maple production, blueberries, cut flowers, wholesale, farmers’ markets, agritourism, best growing practices, marketing, and much more!

The show is a great resource for learning about resources available for farmers – new or established; updates in technologies; and the chance to hear about how other farmers around the state are dealing with current issues.  A little bit of idea exchange with like minded industry people can go along way in helping tweak practices to make farm life easier or more efficient.

In addition to three days jam-packed with learning – the Pietree staff in attendance had a wonderful opportunity to bond over meals in a rather stressfree environment, and had a great time conversing, sharing what was learned, laughing and just generally building relationships which will go far when working long hours together in the fields and woods!  Overall, it was a great experience for all!
