Maine Apple Sunday is September 14, 2014. Come celebrate Maine's apple heritage with us! This Sunday come meet our orchardist, Scott Miller and staff, to talk apples and try many tasty varieties including Red Gravenstein, Paula Red, and William's Pride- this is a great opportunity to try new apple varieties and find a new favorite! John Tercyak will be back in concert from 10am-2pm outside the farmstand with his fine fiddling skills and vocals. Enjoy picking your own apples, wagon rides, a hay-maze, and many wonderful apple baked goods including cider donuts and apple blondies! You don't want to miss this day of family fun at the orchard.
We have plenty of apples available in the farmstand. Our first harvest of Gingergold and Virginia Crab apples came in this week. We continue to have other tasty varieties including William's Pride, Red Gravenstein, Dudley Winter and more! Peaches are still available in great supply, we even have some white peaches available.
Fresh from the field this week we have a new harvest of green beans, radishes, and sweet red and orange peppers! We continue to have zucchini, onions, summer squash, rainbow chard, carrots, green peppers, tomatoes, cabbage, and a bounty of cut flowers. Our winter squash and potatoes are looking wonderful and the ornamental corn is starting to mature- we hope to offer both of these crops in the next two weeks.
To celebrate Maine's apple heritage our bakers made an abundance of apple baked goods. Our apple brownie is back- the chewy and moist fall favorite! This treat is packed with chunks of fresh apple and lots of brown-sugar and cinnamon. Our apple cranberry muffin cakes are topped with fresh chopped apples, fresh cranberries and almond icing. These mini bundt cakes are delicious for brunch- or anytime! Of course we have the ever popular cider donuts available! These little treats are made fresh daily with our own apple cider and are a customer favorite! You are sure to find an apple treat you will love this week at Pietree!
