Fresh from the filed this week we have our first harvest of purple, orange, and white bunching carrots. For tomatoes we have slicing, cherry, and plums in good supply. We continue to have large quantities green and yellow beans, onions, cucumbers, zucchini, kale, cabbage and green peppers. Eggplant, chard, broccoli, and cauliflower are available in limited supply.
The first apples of the season are in! The Lodi apple is a sweet-tart good eating and cooking apple. Lodi apples make a wonderful apple sauce and are great sliced for a summer salad with walnuts and fresh greens.
We are now growing flowers at Pietree for our retail stand and eventually for pick-your-own! Our first bunches of our cut flowers will be available in our farmstand this week. We also have potted mums and asters to spruce up your flower bed for color through out the fall.
Our bakers have been taking advantage of the plump, sweet blueberries. We have fresh made brick oven roasted blueberry sauce. This sauce is pure blueberry bliss bursting with flavor and a hint of lemon zest. Try this sauce over yogurt or ice cream or as a shortcake topping. We also have blueberry swirl muffins packed with blueberries and topped with a swirl of blueberry sauce and lemon sugar! A perfect pairing with Carpe Diem Coffee and packaged to go to brunch.
Our bread of the week is a smokey, jalapeño cheddar bread. This savory quick bread is made with smokey paprika, cabot cheddar cheese, jalapeños, and caramelized onions. Pair this bread with light summer soups or enjoy topped with creamy butter.
