Late June in Maine brings one of our favorite fruits: strawberries.
With only 50 calories, 11 g. carbohydrates, and 2 g. of dietary fiber per serving, strawberries are a delicious, healthy snack, dessert, cereal or pancake topping, or salad star! (Nutritional Data: U.S. Food & Drug Administration, Jan. 1, 2008).
Strawberry Salad: 4 cups salad mix tossed with 1/2 cup sliced strawberries, 3 thinly sliced radishes and our Basic Dressing to taste.
Basic Dressing: 2/3 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup red wine or balsamic vinegar, 1 clove minced garlic, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 TB fresh minced herbs (or 1 tsp dried), whisked together
Strawberries are now available in our farmstand for $5.25/quart.
Pick-your-own strawberries begins Wednesday, June 26th, 10am-4pm. We always recommend calling ahead and checking conditions on the day you plan to pick. We’re subject to our own special weather up here on the hill and sometimes the strawberries need to rest and sweeten up in the sun.
