We continue to be busy preparing for the winter ahead. We are in the process of winterizing the greenhouse and putting the last of our fields to bed. An order of straw will be here this week to cover crops such as strawberries. We are busy looking over all the tractors, vehicles and other implements to maintain or store over for winter. Our field crew is working full time down in the sugar bush preparing for the maple season ahead.
Rome and Mutsu apples were the last of the apples to be harvested this season. Our farmstsand is packed with an amazing selection of apples- all with unique tastes and textures. We encourage you to try new varieties of apples each season. We offer many of our apples by the pound so it is easy to buy one, or three, different kinds of apples in small amounts. This week we have two dozen different varieties of apples on our shelves and a farmstand staff happy to talk you through all the choices!
We offer both conventionally grown apples and apples grown according to national organic protocol (NOP). For conventionally grown apples we have Freyburg, Reinette Simirenko (comparable to Granny Smith), Stark's Jumbo, Black Oxford, Winesap, Cox Orange Pippin, and more! Apples grown according to national organic protocol include Enterprise, Gold Rush, Priam, Cortland, Liberty, and Nova Spy. For tasting notes on these apple varieties check out Whats Growing In The Orchard on our homepage!
We continue to have a great selection of produce in the farmstand. Organic cranberries from Woodward Cranberry Farm are in! We also have a great selection of winter squash including Jester, Butternut, Buttercup, Acorn, and Red Kuri. For potatoes we have Red Gold, Kennebec, Adirondack Blue, Adirondack Red, French Fingerling, and Sweet. Fresh from the green house we have hardy kale and possibly some salad greens depending on the harvest. Other produce available includes onions, garlic, Jerusalem artichokes, pie pumpkins and more.
There is still time to get those bulbs in the ground this year! We have a great selection of bulbs available in the farmland and they are 50% off this week! A lovely selection including Daffodils, Specialty Tulips, Hyacinth and Alliums is available in the farmstand. Hurry in to pick out your spring blooms before it is too late.
We have a great selection of baked goods in the farmstand. The ever popular rosemary focaccia, honey wheat and maple oat breads are all fresh and available this week. For sweets we have oatmeal raisin cookies, molasses cookies, pumpkin sweet bread and a classic gingerbread mini loaf. We are taking pre-orders for breads and pies this Thanksgiving!
