Fresh from the field this week we have onions, garlic and winter squash in abundant supply and variety. Rainbow chard, baby kale, and radishes are tender and crisp from our greenhouse and we look forward to our first harvest of mixed greens this week! We continue to have an amazing array of ornamental corn, pumpkins, and mums for fall decorating.
Have you ever had yacon? it is a tuberous root vegetable with a fruity taste somewhere between an apple and celery. Yacon is native to South America and is a wonderful in fruit salads and roasted with other root vegetables. It has a crisp, sweet, crunchy bite that is packed with fiber and other nutrients. We are so excited to have this tasty and nutritious vegetable growing here at Pietree!
From the orchard we have a great selection of both organically and conventionally grown apples! For conventional apples we have Macintosh, Macoun, Ginger Gold, Cortland and Honey Crisp available. For organically grown apples we have Crimson Crisp, Macintosh, Pristine, and Snow Sweet. Our fields are still open daily for pick-your-own apples from 10am-4pm. We have a great hay-maze for the kids open daily and offer free family wagon rides on the weekends. Both Cortland and Macintosh apples are available for pick-your-own.
The farmstand is loaded with sweet, fall treats. We have pumpkin pies from White Wulff! Check out the new caramel sauces from Northwoods Gourmet Girl and organic chocolate caramel sauce that is perfect with vanilla ice cream or dipping apple slices in! Our open faced wood-fired apple galette is packed with Pietree apples and gently sweetened and spiced with cinnamon making it the perfect fall treat. Make sure to grab a slab of Pietree caramel for eating or dipping apples. Our homemade cider infused caramel comes with dipping sticks and simple instructions to make your own caramel apples at home!
